Attending this event?
We are here: Compassion, Creativity, Change.

Let’s come together as a community of educators to reflect, grow and connect, empowering each other to create change agents for tomorrow.  What does it mean to be compassionate? What does it mean to be innovative? What does it mean to teach? To learn? To care?

We can’t wait to host you at GSIS for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools International Educators’ Conference 2018 (#KORCOSIEC18).  We are excited to make connections with the vision to create a better tomorrow.  That begins with the idea of a "We" being in the moment together, with the commitment to be our best selves for our students.

Let’s do this.

** Registration opens at the start of the 2018-19 school year.  Look to September 15, 2018 for the Registration on Eventbrite.  Currently, we are in the process of curating presenters.  If you are an amazing educator and wish to share your craft with others next to these incredible human beings pre-selected, please apply HERE.**

Taking the Complexity out of Compassion: A Focus on Language, Behaviors, and “Skill” vs. “Will” FULL

Log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity full

Session Objectives:
1. Unpack the term “compassion”: the why, what, and how.
2. Walk away with resources and ways to explicitly teach, formatively assess, and provide feedback on compassion in action for all students.

Session Description:
While the concept of “showing compassion” comes innately to some students, the idea can be difficult for others to understand and carry out. The challenge then becomes this: how do I encourage more compassion in some students, and create a culture of compassion in my classroom?

In this session, we will explore ways to break down compassion into visible behaviors and specific language. We will walk through the process of determining whether students have the necessary, prerequisite “skills” to demonstrate compassion or the proper “will” to do so.  Finally, we will discuss and connect with resources to assist in teaching, assessing, and providing powerful feedback on compassion in action with all students, not just those with special needs.
