KORCOS18 IEC has ended
We are here: Compassion, Creativity, Change.

Let’s come together as a community of educators to reflect, grow and connect, empowering each other to create change agents for tomorrow.  What does it mean to be compassionate? What does it mean to be innovative? What does it mean to teach? To learn? To care?

We can’t wait to host you at GSIS for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools International Educators’ Conference 2018 (#KORCOSIEC18).  We are excited to make connections with the vision to create a better tomorrow.  That begins with the idea of a "We" being in the moment together, with the commitment to be our best selves for our students.

Let’s do this.

Limited Capacity filling up

Session Objectives:
1. Inquire into the meaning of learning a foreign language in the 21st Century
2. Reflect on the social responsibilities implied in teaching a foreign language

Session Description:
We live in a globalized world in which avoiding interaction with ideas from other cultures, with different perspectives, and with different intentions is virtually impossible. The world needs effective foreign language speakers and communicators. Social, cultural, political, and historical events are occurring and accumulating with a speed that justifies why the collection of books once known as the encyclopedia would not be able to host them all.

This interconnected world needs foreign language learners to become interpreters and cultural consultants; to act as people who are able to engage in supporting immigrants; to operate as individuals who have the skills to support people to settle in a new community. This world needs effective communicators who are able to think critically and conceptually.   Join me in this reflection on the rejuvenated role of foreign language teaching and learning in the present.
