KORCOS18 IEC has ended
We are here: Compassion, Creativity, Change.

Let’s come together as a community of educators to reflect, grow and connect, empowering each other to create change agents for tomorrow.  What does it mean to be compassionate? What does it mean to be innovative? What does it mean to teach? To learn? To care?

We can’t wait to host you at GSIS for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools International Educators’ Conference 2018 (#KORCOSIEC18).  We are excited to make connections with the vision to create a better tomorrow.  That begins with the idea of a "We" being in the moment together, with the commitment to be our best selves for our students.

Let’s do this.

Session Objective:
Raise an understanding of the human alarm system to uncover the root of anxiety.

Session Description:
Our human alarm system is exceedingly complex.  We talk much about anxiety without knowing that it is rooted in alarm.  Agitation based and adrenalin based alarm problems seemed to be escalating amongst today’s children.  This construct is supported by contemporary neuroscience.  Alarm problems are very common and divergent in range.  Scattered attention is a very big problem that is primarily rooted in an alarm problem. Alarm problems may result in the following: trouble focusing, panic phobias that lack conscience, “cutting” of today’s adolescents, nightmares, unable to look at one’s mistakes, and  unable to identify imminent trouble. Many children are not able to stay out of harm’s way which may be associated with carelessness that may cause nervous tics, restlessness,....and many more startled responses that number in the thousands.

We will look at the human alarm system that triggers anxiety.  We will also discuss how we can help treat anxiety and alarm problems that can be a complex issue in today’s society.
