KORCOS18 IEC has ended
We are here: Compassion, Creativity, Change.

Let’s come together as a community of educators to reflect, grow and connect, empowering each other to create change agents for tomorrow.  What does it mean to be compassionate? What does it mean to be innovative? What does it mean to teach? To learn? To care?

We can’t wait to host you at GSIS for the Korea Council of Overseas Schools International Educators’ Conference 2018 (#KORCOSIEC18).  We are excited to make connections with the vision to create a better tomorrow.  That begins with the idea of a "We" being in the moment together, with the commitment to be our best selves for our students.

Let’s do this.

Session Objective:
Explore the notion of student agency; ponder how materials and the learning environment influence student agency

Session Description:
While the Makerspace has been the subject of recent research in the areas of the arts, design, digital literacy, etc; less work has been done on the relationship between children's agency and the space where the making happens. This workshop will focus on research surrounding agency and human geography conducted within an elementary school Makerspace at an international school in Beijing. Participants will take a peek inside this low-tech, organic example of a Maker Space through the digital documentation of mixed-age projects; with the goal of highlighting the enactment of agency within this space. They will engage in a collaborative brainstorm on how to support/refine a 'maker mindset' in their own contexts.
